Esther Barandun

Esther Barandun is an independent celebrant and author and describes herself as a thealogian. She creates independent funeral ceremonies in the Basel region and, by her own account, was among the first there to hold such ceremonies. She has worked as a farewell speaker for more than twenty years. During this time she has moved away from set texts and quotations and developed her own language for saying farewell. Her background includes training as a primary school teacher, theology studies in Fribourg, training in NLP and mental training, and further education in philosophy, rhetoric and communication. She worked as a primary school teacher for more than ten years. Her funeral ceremonies are independent of church, religion and institutions and leave room for personal words and rituals. She also writes poems and stories and has published the book «Die Sache mit dem Tod».
